Route -: Bangalore - Ramnagara - Channapatna - Srirangapatna - Hunsur - Gonikopal - Nagarhole National Park - Wayanad
Time Of the Trip -: August 2016 ( Rainy Season )
Distance Covered -: 750 Km in 3 days
Type of Trip -: Weekend Getaway
Road Quality -: 8/10
Note -: We took the Nagarhole National Park route ( even thoughit'ss a bit longer ) for 2 reasons
- The route is really scenic and gives you a welcome change from the concrete highways and barren lands around it.
- Since it was a popular weekend, the mysore route is usually teaming with traffic hence wanted to bypass that and enjoy the drive as well.
Day 1
6:30 AM - Left from Bangalore
Traffic Jam on the way to Mysore |
We reached Nagarhole by 10:30 AM
( We chose to go through this way which was even though longer but much more serene, quiet and beautiful.)
Rain and Fog made it magical |
Amazing Secluded Roads through Nagarhole |
With great antlers come great responsibility..!! |
Saw really photogenic herds of deer by the side of the road and the roads were extremely good and had no traffic at all. The lush green forest added to the experience ten fold.
Reached Wayanad by 3:00 PM
Stayed in Sultan Bathery. Roamed around in the forest cover around there till sun down. And then almost got lost there.
Note- : Make sure you do not go out after dark on a 2 wheeler, or atleast you know the ways since it gets pitch black and the roads are narrow and same woods become really really eerie and creepy at night.
Day 2
Went to see Edakkal Caves
On the way to Edakkal Caves |
Edakkal Caves |
View from the Top near Edakkal Caves |
Entire open Landscape visible from the caves |
Enjoyed the tea plantations and the Scenery all around
Tea Plantations |
Entire hills covered in Tea Plantations |
Around 2:00 went to our next spot for the Day.
Suchipara Waterfalls
On the way to the Waterfall |
Amazingly cold and refreshing water at Suchipara Waterfall |
Day 3
Left our resort to go and see the View Point - Neelimala View Point
The way to the top can be covered in 2 ways - Either on Foot( better wear your trekking shoes and avoid this in Rainy season) or In a Jeep ( Pray to all your gods because this will be the wildest ride of your life esp in the rainy season.)
The scariest ride of my Life |
Another weird thing we noticed here is that the local people will not let you trek up there alone, and you need to pay a small fee to go up there and a local guy will come with you till the top.
This was the trail for the viewpoint after the jeep dropped you. |
You can see really far, including a few surrounding waterfalls if the weather is clear. When we were there, it rained cats and dogs hence we saw only a few peaks nearby.
The epic view amongst the clouds made it even more difficult to finally leave all this behind and get back to our regular lives.
Left Wayanad around 3:00 PM for Bangalore
On the way back found some beautiful Flower fields so had to just stop and click a few pics.
The owner of these fields |
Bottomline
A good trip. Probably not the best time to truly explore and appreciate this place but that being said, this is a great place to relax and get close to nature.
The entire landscape and the greenery all around will sooth your eyes and your soul.
